My project at BilbaoArte can be understood as the continuation of the work I have been doing until now. I constantly feel that I am evolving and in crisis and the challenge that brings is in itself an artistic/vital project.
I feel a clear inclination to sculpture and I feel most comfortable with three-dimensional work; however, I also use other media, especially watercolour. The staging of various sculptural pieces with watercolours is an area I am investigating, searching for formal friction between both media that may be of interest as a generator of interrogatives.
Ion Macareno (Bilbao, 1980) is a graduate in Fine Arts from Universidad del País Vasco and is completing a Master in Investigation and the creation of art at the same university. He previously completed his studies in psychology, an area to which the artist is greatly attracted and which he considers as a discipline that is closely linked to art. He has taken part in several collective and individual exhibitions. He currently holds a Fundación BilbaoArte fellowship and is working on his artistic project Casper the friendly ghost.
